Dentures
Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. If you have lost all or most of your natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay, or injury, replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health.
At West Veranda Dental Care, we offer several types of dentures to meet your individual needs and restore your confidence in your smile.
TYPES OF DENTURES
We offer several denture options:
- Complete Dentures — Replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw. They rest on the gums and are held in place with suction or denture adhesive.
- Partial Dentures — Replace some missing teeth when natural teeth remain. They attach to existing teeth with clasps or precision attachments.
- Implant-Supported Dentures — Anchored by dental implants for superior stability and comfort.
- Immediate Dentures — Placed immediately after tooth extraction so you are never without teeth during the healing process.
BENEFITS OF DENTURES
Modern dentures are more comfortable and natural-looking than ever before. They restore your ability to eat and speak comfortably, improve your appearance and confidence, support the muscles of your face to prevent a sunken appearance, and are a cost-effective solution for replacing multiple missing teeth.
GETTING USED TO YOUR NEW DENTURES
It is normal to experience some soreness and difficulty eating or speaking when you first receive your dentures. With time, your mouth muscles will adapt. We recommend starting with soft foods and cutting food into small pieces, practicing speaking by reading aloud, and attending all follow-up appointments so we can make any necessary adjustments.
CARING FOR YOUR DENTURES
Remove and rinse dentures after eating, brush them daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner, soak them overnight in water or a denture-soaking solution, and handle them carefully to avoid dropping them. Also continue to brush your gums, tongue, and palate daily.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long do dentures last?
Full dentures typically last 7-10 years. Over time, your jawbone and gums change, which may cause the dentures to fit differently and require relining or replacement.
Can I sleep in my dentures?
Most dentists recommend removing dentures at night to give your gum tissue time to rest and to allow for proper cleaning.
Will dentures affect how I eat?
Initially, you may need to stick to soft foods as you adjust. Over time, most people are able to eat a relatively normal diet.
